Founded in 1603, on the Japanese island of Honshu, the once-tiny fishing village of Edo has changed much over the past 400 years: it has grown into the world’s second-largest city, become the capital of Japan and changed its name to Tokyo.
During that time of great expansion and development, the city gave birth to Nissan Motor. The year 2003 marked the 400th anniversary of the former and the 70th birthday of the latter, giving Nissan the perfect opportunity to built one of the most eccentric concept cars of recent times.

For many, the recent crisis of 2008 through to 2012 was the worst downturn for the automotive industry in many years. But the mid-1970s were in many ways just as grim, though many of the players in the industry were stronger then and could weather the economic storm better than in recent crises. For makers of fine cars, however, those were desperate times indeed. But many of the designs of those years, some of the best ever, seem to defy the desperation and might fool one into thinking it was an automotive golden age.
